Emily Kincaid was well on her way to a conventional happy life when a series of unexpected events shattered that possibility. After becoming a mom at 19, she's now on a collision course with 30 and still as single as the day she was born. Emily accepted loneliness, invited him to stay, fed him some Oreos, and got comfortable. But now Troy Walker is moving into her Manhattan building and exhuming all of the old fairytale dreams she had laid to rest. Troy is so obnoxiously kind, handsome, successful and considerate that Emily's life gets uncomfortable again. His presence forces her to wrestle with desires for things she and her son may never have. Emily values Troy's friendship and tries to be happy for him and his Cinderella, but she can't stop hoping her own Prince Charming will appear. And that he'll look something like Troy. Emily and Troy test the limits of a platonic male/female relationship and they break. Her life goes back to its old routine, but she can't find comfort in it anymore. Emily feels like the universe owes her more and now is the time to collect. Her journey as a single mother is marked by heartache, sacrifice, hope, and love. But with supportive parents and an encouraging best friend along for the ride, there's lots of room for laughter and joy. Emily comes to realize that happily ever after isn't something you just stumble into by accident and some of us have to write our own fairytales.
