Publisher Marketing: This Manual, "Occupational Medical Examinations and Surveillance Manual," is issued in accordance with the authority of DoD Instruction (DoDI) 6055.5 (Reference (a)). It provides health professionals with information and references appropriate for developing and conducting occupational medical examinations and surveillance prescribed in Reference (a) by identifying the known health risks associated with specific jobs, processes, and exposures. DoD 6055.5-M, "Occupational Medical Surveillance Manual," May 4, 1998, (Reference (b)) is hereby canceled. This Manual applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense ("DoD Components"). This Manual is effective immediately and is mandatory for use by all the DoD Components in developing, performing, interpreting the results of, and conducting population-based surveillance with the results of occupational medical examinations. Data collected through environmental sampling and individual surveillance should be entered into appropriate electronic data systems, as available.
