I authored the concept of "Shock Incarceration" which became law in Kansas in 1970, and then was adopted in numerous jurisdictions in the U. S. and also spread to Europe-it is currently identified in the U. S. as "Boot Camp" [as the means to "shock" the young offender-and a total distortion of my original intent-like many ideas, once released, they take on a life of their own]. I also instigated establishment of the first Court Psychiatric Clinic in the U. S., in conjunction with psychiatrists from the Menninger Foundation, as a chief probation officer.
