Cal and Amanda Blake accept ownership of his late uncle's ranch in Montana and move their family there to begin ranch life. An unexpected discovery of a silver mine on the ranch causes Cal to experience the true meaning of "silver fever," but he never tells anyone about it. Amanda realizes that Cal has become like a chameleon, attempting to hide his secret activities, but she doesn't understand why.
