Noises from the Garage David Novick
Noises from the Garage
David Novick
Had Noah and Homer met Noises from the Garage could have been the result, combining Noah's charge for two of every kind with the principle of Homer never to repeat, the Homeric principle halved. Written from September '09 to May '11, initially on plain five x eight notepaper, these poems are an exploration of language for new sounds and definitions told as tales from middle-class America through the voices of two or three loosely defined characters, one of whom is a narrator as well; against a back-drop of changing seasons, history, travel, business, politics and the daily challenges fighting to remain in that ever-shrinking domain. You may have heard of garage-rock. Well, these are garage-poems, never half-hearted.
