This is the story of Morgan Wickers, a future pioneer. He earns his meager wages by testing the high tech gear created in Physiocomm's research and development labs. Bumming along at the forefront of technology, he spends most of his time playing a reality simulating war game.
When Physiocomm's brilliant scientists tell Morgan they have developed a new interface between the mind and a computer he enthusiastically agrees to test it, expecting the best gaming experience ever.
At first the new interface they implant in his brain works like a charm, and he can't get enough, until one night when he unplugs from the game and finds his body isn't where he left it.
Terrified that someone has hacked into his brain in order to commit a heinous act, Morgan tries to warn Physiocomm, but the security team monitoring his every move denies it ever happened and nobody will believe him.
When someone tries to kill Morgan, he flees to the safety of an old family cabin, far from the trappings of the high tech world. But when he finds out that Physiocomm has begun selling the interface he warned them about, he realizes he'll have to risk his own life for the sake of humanity itself.
His attempt to warn people of the danger inherent in the hot selling new interface sparks chaos in the peaceful city streets, and suddenly Morgan finds himself pursued by the very people he tried to save. He will have to use every warrior skill he has developed in countless hours of virtual combat to save himself and his friends from very real danger, and somehow discover who is behind it all, but all he knows for sure is that when the final wall between humanity and technology breaks down, Morgan Wickers will be standing in the breach.
