Under normal circumstances, being born in a British Military Hospital, on a politically restive island seeking its independence, might not be the best start to life. But for Mark Dutton it was. Thanks to the careers and lifestyle of his sun-loving and wanderlust parents, Mark and his brother Michael had the good fortune to spend their entire boyhood on a beautiful Mediterranean island. They also shared in family travels to other gems of the region and grew to recognize and share their parents' passion for its magical mix of geography and history. In The Sunbirds,the author supplements personal memories of his boyhood on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and the lifestyle of his sun-loving and wanderlust parents with extracts from his father's diaries, which are in italics throughout the chapters.
