Humor and romance are the important ingredients of entertaining fiction. In many of our activities we need to be entertained - be it during air travel, on a weekend at the beach, or on nights when there's nothing on television.

In the two short novels, "Bunny" and "The Brothers," ordinary Americans resembling people we all know move through experiences that we have had or that are not far-fetched.

The romantic interludes in these two stories examine several reasons that a man and woman should pair off. As happens frequently, these relationships fall on hard times. The whys and wherefores are studied.

In writing about men and women and their joint activities, the author is careful to use suggestion and allusion in place of the short, direct words. One's imagination is the part of the mind designed for reliving the intimate activities of others.

The essays are meant for reading and perhaps rereading. They are views on our modern life, written in a style to cause one to reflect and smile. Taken as a whole, the book is a fine companion.
