She lived in India, the United Kingdom, Germany, Pakistan, and Iraq before immigrating to the US in 1995. She is currently a graduate student in George Mason University's School of Public Policy. She is the first woman from Afghanistan to author a book in English. She plans to work in diplomacy or public policy after finishing her Master's Degree in 2010.
