New York City, 1921. Joey Batista, a young private investigator, finds himself honor bound to his family's ties to the Mafia in his Italian neighborhood, hampering the legitimate growth of his business and endangering the lives of those around him. To make matters worse sexual tensions erupt once again between Joey and his beautiful, but deadly partner, and their talented and inquisitive secretary as they find themselves dealing with the blood vendetta of a recently released criminal, an unscrupulous DA and the deranged actions of a homicidal maniac. The raw brutality of New York City during prohibition draws Joey deeper into the inner workings of the underworld, forcing him to call upon his military training to protect his family, friends and neighborhood. This proves to be a daunting task even for a skilled war time assassin, as death continues to strike down those around him. His family and friends know who Joey Batista was before the war, and they continue to see him change in unexpected ways as he transitions back to civilian life. Driven by circumstances beyond his control, not even Joey knows who he will eventually become.
