I am a blue-eyed son with a heritage as deep as the Mediterranean. I am the dream of my ancestors manifested in flesh and bone. I am the heart that beats along with the battle drums of my people. I am an image lost in time.

The poet also asks, "What Defines a Man?" A portion reads:

Is it the roads he's traveled?
Or the lives he's touched?
The sacrifices made?
Or not so much?
The blood he's shed?
The tears withheld?
The time he's spent?
Or the pain he's felt?
