War comes to Canadaand everything changes.¿ Skipper returnsto his family in Winnipeg to finishhis High-School and tries to join the Navy but is told by a tired old "Chief"to go home and grow up. He is still very small for his age and even his voice is thatof a young boy but he convinces the airforce thatwith his pluck, brains and skills he is pilot material. Next we find him in command of a Lancaster Bomber headingfor Germany.¿ Skipper, still young, still small, grows upfast and the way he tells this part of his life will leave the reader sittingquietly after finishing some of these chapters. Finally, the war is over and Skipper is back in Canada.¿ He finds a job flying the northern bushcountry of Saskatchewan and findshis own childhood repeated when a small Metis boystands before him and asks if he can call him his "Dad".
