This volume presents an integrated study of the middle Guadalquivir lowlands from the beginnings of agriculture in the region to the birth of the Chalcolithic. Chapters review the evidence for landscape and settlement pattersn, pottery production, the knapped stone industry, the non-carved lithic industry, the bone industry, and animal consumption and exploitation. In particular the author demonstrates a fundamental shift in agriculture during the fourth millennium BC, associated with the systematic occupation of lowland sites, and intensified cereal production, as well as specialised pastoral farming centred on goats in the lowlands and pigs in the Guadalquivir floodplain.
