By Jackie Reno In 1997, when my daughter Melissa was in our backyard a driver drove his car though the fence and killed her. Five years later, my husband and I still grieve her sudden death. She was only twenty-eight years old. Fr. Tony gave me the book he had written, Comfort Those Who Grieve. Since my grief is still so strong, it sat on my desk for five days before I even had the courage to pick it up and open it. As I began to read it, I can not even begin to tell you the peace that I felt. I gave it to my husband Joe to read it as well. In agreeing to write the forward to this book that has brought so much peace back into our lives, I know that this book will be a great help. When anyone loses someone they love so much, they need a book like this as a tool to help find peace of soul and a gradual acceptance to death. This is not a book on death and dying. This is a book that allows those who are grieving to overcome grief by faith, that makes life worth living. The Scriptures and poems bring the insights of faith and life together and help one through the darkness of death into the dawn of new life and hope. 1. It has scriptures that allow us to look beyond the sadness and to see our loved ones now at peace in God, the angels, and saints above. 4. It keeps the elements of Elisabeth Kubler Ross's five stages of death and dying in the process of grief.
