This is a story of a poor young immigrant boy in a strange new country having to deal with being picked on and discriminated against, and how he dealt with it. It is a story of an extremely shy young man, afraid of the dark and of the water, and recognizing this as a handicap, his successful effort to overcome this. A story of his desire to better himself by becoming better educated - this being interrupted by World War II. His experiences as a flying instructor in the R. C. A. F., during which time he met the love of his life, Lillian Phillips, the start of a wonderful fifty-five year relationship. His post-war efforts at establishing himself and his move to Florida. The story covers the sad period of nearly two years of caring for his wife after she suffered a stroke, which left her paralyzed on one side and unable to talk, of her eventual passing and how he dealt with this. His story details his struggles, failures, and successes during the years 1916 to 2002. It also explains the title.
