The Last Man's Club Lorraine St Martin
The Last Man's Club
Lorraine St Martin
Weird Times! As a fourth generation St. Martin, I was the child of ancestors migrating from France. Along came World War I and with it my father fought nine horrendous battles. Horrible! Influenza epidemic - my father was gassed, hit by shrapnel and worse - shell-shocked. After the Armistice he resumed farming but ill, emotionally, mentally and physically. Despite his patriotic view of the war, like a first love gone sour, it broke him. Yes, life was difficult. There were nightmares and debt, which followed him through life. Still, this man of iron, with inner strength, born of faith, was a determined man, ever ready to be a good husband, a great father, a true American. Following his death, I knew his was a story worth telling. You would have enjoyed knowing him. The title: THE LAST MAN'S CLUB, is derived from a pact. "The last man alive gets to drink the cognac."
