A fictitious suburb of Norfolk Virginia, Woodhaven is the center of action between various families in a typical Southern Baptist Church. As might be expected, there are all types of individuals, including the unsavory. The Vietnam War has just ended, and in this year of 1973 many issues not experienced earlier confront the Atwood Memorial Baptist Church. One such thing is ordaining women as deacons, which is not acceptable to some in the congregation. Similar controversies over one thing and another - many personal ones included - move to a surprising finish.
