Elizabeth Smithfield Holt, Duchess of Bedford, and her new husband, Lord Andrew Holt, heir to the Earl of Northampton, dedicate a headstone for the father she never knew.  Her great uncle storms in.  He denounces her, calling her a scheming witch, not the true heir.
     When Elizabeth attempts to move her mother's remains to Bedford, the grave is empty!  Her mother Constance is her only link to the Smithfield legacy. What if she never finds her? Is Elizabeth indeed only a commoner and pretender?
     Elizabeth's search becomes a complex quest. Clues lead her to her mother's birthplace in Kempston, and end with a missing church record.  A letter from her Aunt Faith promises to disclose the location of the elusive remains.  When Andrew arranges to meet with Faith, he goes missing.
     To find her husband, Elizabeth reclaims her identity as "Sir Quinn."  Using her sword, as well as her wits, she tracks down her scheming grandfather. Will this lead her to Andrew? Can she prove her lineage and lay her mother to eternal rest beside her father?
