Contributor Bio: Bates, R Although I was born in the United Kingdom I am for all intents and purposes a Kiwi. My family immigrated to New Zealand shortly after my first birthday and we have been here ever since. Growing up I had a wonderful childhood full of imaginative play and make-believe worlds and, to be perfectly honest, nothing much has changed. I am still as much a day dreamer as I ever was. It is this overactive imagination that has led me into the world of the novelist. As a writer I am influenced by many things, art, music, films, books, and some of my favourite stories are Japanese animations. I drink in the heroines of Studio Ghibli and lap up the imaginative worlds of C. S. Lewis, I revel in the complexities of J. R. Tolkien and Fuyumi Ono and I laugh out loud when reading Douglas Adams and William Goldman. When I am not being a writer I am a hobbyist and a gamer, collecting articulated figurines from Japanese Animations and spending hours role playing in the world of the Elder Scrolls. As for my qualifications I have a certificate in Performance Drama, a Bachelors Degree in Human Service with Disability Studies as my major, and a Graduate Diploma in Creative Practice. All in all I suppose I am a bit of an eclectic eager to try my hand at anything creative and enjoying life regardless of what anyone might think. S. E. Fearon
