Williams Dublin, 1767-68. 17v.; 12 Contributor Bio: Swift, Jonathan Jonathan Swift was born on November 30, 1667, in Dublin, Ireland. His father had died several months earlier, and his mother decided Swift should be raised by relatives. Growing up, Swift enjoyed reading and writing. In 1682, he graduated from Trinity College in Dublin, and then traveled to England with dreams of becoming an important church member. He soon returned to Ireland, however, to continue his education and eventually become the dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral. In the meantime, Swift never lost his love for writing. In 1726, he published Gulliver's Travels, a story that is still popular today.
