The book briefly gives the background and history of this surgical method, some basic principles in its application and its benefits, but the heart of the book is the set of surgical procedures for each classification of fracture or bone disease and as such, results in a detailed "How-To" step-by-step resource guide which can be quickly learned by the physician.

Dr. Savchenko's impetus for writing this book is that there has been no prior comprehensive exposition of this medical method, although there are works describing the life and theories of Dr. Gabriel Ilizarov, the creator of the method. These procedures were developed by the author, Dr. Savchenko, during his twelve years of trauma surgery at the Ilizarov Center, and provide a better approach to the conventional methods of treating injured limbs.

Benefits to audience

The conventional treatment of bone fractures and bone diseases now has a new, alternative treatment method. Used primarily in Russia, it is offered at few other locations. Whereas conventional methods of treatment can be expensive, painful, risky and lengthy, this new approach offers physicians the ability to provide treatment that can be done quickly, with less pain and less anaesthesia, and with improved anatomical/physiological results, all at less expense.
