The Qur'an has a wealth of information--both worldly wisdom and intellectual concepts--providing a code of life for humankind generally and Muslims in particular. Indeed, the Qur'an's miracle lies in its ability to offer something to non-believers and everything to believers. This elegantly-packaged edition includes a ribbon marker and is fully indexed. Marc Notes: Parallel Arabic text and English translation.; Printed in reverse sequence.; Includes bibliographical references and index. Publisher Marketing: Accepted by Muslims as the miraculous utterance of the Almighty, the Qu'an (the Arabic spelling for the more commonly used Koran) contains all the divine revelations given to Muhammad by Allah, or God. The collection as it now exists was compiled by Muhammad's followers after his death in 632. This handsome volume features the original Arabic side by side with its English translation -- plus a wealth of information in the editor's commentary that provides intellectual explanation, interpretation, and important background. His translation of the Qur-an is one of the most widely known and used in the English-speaking world. Ali was born in Bombay, British India to a wealthy merchant family with a Dawoodi Bohra father. As a child, Ali received a religious education and, eventually, could recite the entire Qur-an from memory. He spoke both Arabic and English fluently. He studied English literature and studied at several European universities, including the University of Leeds. He concentrated his efforts on the Qur-an and studied the Qur-anic commentaries beginning with those written in the early days of Islamic history.
