There are over 200 entries including English words, slang, idiomatic and figurative expressions, historical terms and more that can't commonly be found in a middle school dictionary.

Included in the introduction is a brief essay on the language and times of General Watie to assist readers in understanding the overall context of the story. There is also an essay regarding figurative language to assist readers with Keith's rich use of figurative language.
