Mr. Hagy continues his systematic reconstruction of the ante-bellum population of Charleston, South Carolina with this, his fourth volume of transcriptions of Charleston city directories available from Clearfield Company For this new book the author has compiled all the names and other pertinent genealogical information which can be found in the Charleston city directories of 1830-31, 1835-36, 1836 (a supplement), 1837-38, and 1840-41. The names in each of the five directories are arranged in alphabetical order, and typically, the directory entries furnish the name of the Charleston resident, his address, and his occupation, or in the case of female heads of household, if widowed.
