Zomboto Motombe, the brutal Angolan dictator, is set to crush neighboring Zaire, a country in internal chaos. Over four hundred people seek haven at an abandoned pier, waiting for a rescue ship, the U. S. S. Gemini...but she is destined never get there. Her crew intercepts an urgent radio call for help from the Cunard liner Brittanic: two Angolan destroyers are attempting to bring her to Luanda to hold as hostage against Western intervention. Courageous actions of the crews of both the liner and supply ship embroil them in a slugfest with the heavier armed and faster destroyers. In Zaire, conditions at the pier deteriorate, and the evacuees are cut off and are about to be captured . . .or annihilated. The United States determinedly musters its military might to try to save the two ships, the evacuees . . .and Zaire itself. And in Angola, a land ruled by fear, there is no mercy, either, as Zomoboto's new 'impressed' lover will learn, a victim named Suanna.
