Evangelism is about introducing people to Jesus but also helping them to grow in Christ. Evangelism has nothing to do with church size, but everything to do with making disciples. Making disciples is a call from God for all churches whether that church is in a declining rural community, a teeming inner city, or a sprawling suburb. In fact, small membership congregations are often more effective in evangelism then their sister megachurches. Rev. Royal Speidel is the Distinguished Evangelist in Residence for the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. Recently retired from the Northern Illinois Annual Conference, he is a recipient of the Denman Award for Evangelism and was recently named the "Pastor of the Year" by the Greater Chicago Sunday School Association.
