Who among us has failed to ponder the prospect of an all-out terrorist attack upon this country-an attack that knocks out the key electrical power grids and plunges a whole region of the nation under a curtain of darkness? This is not the story of such an attack, but rather of its aftermath when the lights go out and cannot be switched back on. On a more rudimentary plane, this is a human story, the tale of a man and woman as ill-suited and ill-matched as nature ever intended, together pitted against an implacable foe.
