A Dream Shattered
Arthur Dromerhauser
A dream may be defined as a fervent hope or desire, a cherished goal. Each and every member of society has dreams. Some are realized and, unfortunately, most are not. This story gives a dramatic and intimate portrait of a man whose personal dream is not realized and then attempts to live his dreams vicariously through his children. The book captures the obsession that dreams can cause and the resultant struggles, turmoil, hurt and disappointment that a family endures. We see how Andy, an all American boy, popular and excellent athlete marries his High School sweetheart who eventually does not realize his dream of being a major league baseball star. We journey through the early years of their marriage and in raising a family. We see Andy, a loving father, become obsessed with his older boy becoming what he never was able to achieve; develop conflicts with family members who do not share his dream; focus on the boy who had the God given ability to realize his dream; eventually come to grips with the family's trials, tribulations and tragedy. We also see how love, faith and a belief in God can help Andy and his wife understand and eventually overcome a parent's ultimate tragedy.
