The rapid increase of interest in disordered speech and language among linguists over the past decade or so has resulted in many books of practical help to speech pathologists in terms of assessment and remediation. Little, however, has appeared to examine the theoretical implications of the interaction between these two fields. This book aims to fill this gap, by showing how speech pathology can inform linguistic theory and vice versa.

Contributor Bio: Ball, Martin J Martin J. Ball is Hawthorne/Board of Regents Endowed Professor and Head of the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is President of the International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association, and editor of the journal "Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics. "His publications include "Vowel Disorders" (co-edited with Fiona Gibbon, 2002) and "Methods in Clinical Phonetics "(with Orla Lowry, 2001).
