Tennyson's central poem is presented with an extensive introduction that provides background information on the poet and poem as well as an overview of In Memoriam's formal and thematic peculiarities, including Tennyson's use of the stanza and the poem's rhyme scheme.

Contributor Bio:  Tennyson, Alfred Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809a1892) published his first two volumes of poems in 1842, establishing him as the leading poet of his generation. He is buried in Westminster Abbey. Christopher Ricks is Warren Professor of Humanities and codirector of the Editorial Institute at Boston University. He is the editor of six poetry collections, including "The Oxford Book of English Verse,"Contributor Bio:  Gray, Erik Erik Gray is assistant professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University.
