The story of his life with the lovely Nellie (Helen) and her sister explains the title of the book; the people and events that shaped their lives make up the story which mainly takes place between the two world wars. It also shows how family love, more important than heirlooms, can be passed on through the generations, and in old age that can be the most important thing of all.
