Marin Grigore and Judith State star in this drama written and directed by Cristian Mungiu. After assaulting the racist foreman at the German slaughterhouse where he has been working, Matthias (Grigore) returns to the small Transylvanian village he calls home, where Romanians, Hungarians and Germans have co-existed for decades. He hopes to rekindle his affair with Csilla (State), who runs a bakery, but she is struggling because none of the locals have responded to her adverts for more workers.

When she employs three Sri Lankan immigrants, the racial tension in the village finally erupts.
