Fatherland
1980s British drama directed by Ken Loach. The film follows the forced defection to West Berlin of Klaus Drittemann (Gerulf Pannach), a famous protest singer-songwriter who comes into conflict with the East German authorities. In the West he finds another kind of censorship imposed by the American record executives who control the music market and shape popular culture.
Klaus' disillusionment and exile eventually lead him to search for his long-lost father in England and in the process, he uncovers some of his own personal and national history.
