Contributor Bio:  Speer, Andreas Bonaventura wird als Giovanni di Fidanza um 1221 in der Toskana geboren und erhalt seinen Rufnamen auf Grund einer Franz von Assisi zugeschriebenen Wunderheilung, die er als Kind erfahrt. Um 1238 beginnt er seine Studien in Paris, tritt 1243 dem Franziskanerorden bei und ubernimmt wenige Jahre spater Lehraufgaben an der dortigen Ordensschule. Nach fruhen exegetischen Arbeiten entsteht um 1253 das Breviloquium, das als Summe seiner Theologie gesehen werden kann. In enger Anlehnung an Augustinus ubernimmt Bonaventura dessen Lehre von der Erleuchtung des menschlichen Geistes durch das Gottliche. Das Pilgerbuch der Seele zu Gott (um 1269) soll eine Anleitung zur Erhebung der Seele bis zur Gottesvereinigung geben und tragt ihm den Titel Furst aller Mystiker ein." Die spaten philosophisch-theologischen Texte Bonaventuras Vom Wissen Christi zeigen die Eigenstandigkeit seines Denkens und erklaren den erheblichen Einfluss, den der Doctor Seraphicus" des Franziskanerordens neben seinem Freund Thomas von Aquin auf die Philosophie des Mittelalters ausubt. Seine machtvolle Position innerhalb der Kirche wird durch die Autorisierung seiner Franziskusbiographie zur alleingultigen sowie seine Ernennung zum Kardinal 1273 manifestiert. Bonaventura stirbt 1274 wahrend der Teilnahme am Konzil von Lyon.
