Bethany Bloom, wishing to go on with life back in the upstate town of Howington as a normal teenager, learns that the scratch that Scottie received from the Inglings attack was much more than it seemed at the time. Having contracted an illness that threatens his life, and for which a cure can only be found in the Four Lands, Bethany finds she has no choice to go back. To do so, she and her friends, Dennis, Elena and Alonso, must first break Scottie out of the medical isolation ward in which he is being held. Then once back in the Four Lands, Bethany must avoid Grandma Rebecca, find the cure and get everyone back safely. To do so, Bethany takes a chance on Tryn, going back to the castle on Twell. Tryn, perhaps as enamored with Bethany as she seems to be with him, agrees to take the group of friends into the land of Dark-Light, to the dwarf shaman. But the dark powers amassing in the Four Lands have plans of their own. Come along on Bethany's adventure as she uses her developing understanding of the Knowing to save Scottie against the growing enemy!
