Set in the 1840s, this novel by Mark Twain is about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, inspired by Hannibal, Missouri, where Twain lived as a boy. Tom Sawyer's several adventures often chronicle with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Being the best selling of any of Twain's works during his lifetime, the book is considered by many a masterpiece of American literature.
