Seneca is one of the highest representatives of Stoicism. In fact, his work constitutes the main written source of Stoic philosophy that has survived to the present day, encompassing plays, philosophical dialogues, treatises on natural philosophy, consolations, and letters. In a society in which happiness is measured by the amount of goods owned, how is it possible to aspire to wisdom and good? Are we talking about the imperial Rome of the 1st century AD or of contemporary Western Society? It could well be either one of them. We read his work today as a timeless source of solutions to the growing spiritual emptiness that consumes us.
