The man who knew too much" is a series of 8 different detective stories whose protagonist is Horne Fisher. It were published in Harper's Monthly Magazine between April 1920 and June 1922, and was written by G. K. Chesterton. I The Face in the Target II The Vanishing Prince, A StoryIII. The Soul of the SchoolboyIV The Bottomless Well V The Fad of the FishermanVI The Hole in the WallVII The Temple of SilenceVII The Vengeance of the StatueThey can be read independently of each other except the first and the last which have a related beginning and end. Chesterton has dared in these stories to reflect the complexity, hypocrisy and moral drama that are evident when an individual character, Horne Fisher, whose personal and family relationships with the highest figures in politics (including the Prime Minister) allow him to be a privileged spectator of state crimes allegedly carried out for the common good. A political journalist, Harold March accompanies Fisher on his adventures, but does not enjoy the same relevance as the Watson of Sherlock Holmes, but serves as the interlocutor of Fisher's reasoning and disquisitions. Perhaps for Chesterton World War I and his tragic memory may flutter above the stories (his brother died in the front). Thus, we witness the intrigues of the Government of Your Gracious Majesty, tensions over the Irish problem or conflicts with Sweden (There were those who questioned Alfred Nobel's harmful dynamite in the bloody WW1). On all these issues, Chesterton's prose runs very effectively precisely, sharp in the dialogues, daring in complex situations and accompanied by his own sense of humor that at the same time is very British. Alfred Hitchcock directed in 1934 a film with the same name and detective atmosphere but adapting other characters and landscapes and in 1956 he made his new color version. He decided to use the same title because he had the rights to the movie. Chesterton was born in London. His father worked at a real estate company and was a fervent Anglican who tried to instill this faith in his children. Young Gilbert Keith stu-died at St. Paul School and then at the Slade School of Art; But what really interested him was writing and doing it with his own strong personality. He began his literary scuffles by editing his first magazine called G. K. Weekly. As a young man he had a restless and speculative character that led him to participate with his friends in social gatherings, where fashion issues such as the esoteric, spiritualism and economic-political idealism were discussed. In one of these meetings, in 1896, he met a pretty young woman, Frances Blogg, who impressed him by his character and with whom he began a relationship that led them to marriage in 1901. As a journalist he worked for many years in The Illustrated London News . His vital curiosity led Chesterton to ponder different idealistic options such as socialism, agnosticism, capitalism, spiritualism, etc. and he moved away from them with disappointment, while he looked forward to the Catholic religion. In 1907, he met the priest John O´Connor, who served as parish priest in the suburb of Bradford and is subjugated by his conversation and personality. His logical rationing inspired him in the creation of the mythical character embodied in a detective priest, whose first title was The Innocence of Father Brown (1911), which followed the trail of Arthur Conan Doyle's style. Years later, between wars, he was hired by the BBC for a series of radio talks that were widely accepted. In 2013, the BBC broadcast a television series about Father Brown's adventures for 2 years.
