EARTHPARK Book One TACTICAL AREA CONTROLLER By WILLIAM H. BAILEY Richard Hawkins, in command of his own TAC Platoon, participates in the attempt to thwart the PLA invasion that is surely coming. Escorting vital members of the scientific community away from White Sands and then Los Alamos he meets the love of his life. His platoon is a vital part of the resounding Victory at Cumbres Pass north of Chama, New Mexico that wipes out the invaders who have chased the scientists all the way to the Colorado border. That victory should have gained the United States a full year or more of respite from the all-out People's Liberation Army invasion, and the space to plan to defend against it. Ambitious politicians take advantage of the seemingly sensational ease of that campaign to elect a new administration promising a more palatable 'war on the cheap' solution. They replace Richard's uncle with a politically correct General, and order him to drive the remaining PLA forces back into Mexico. They promise to negotiate a 'peaceful' settlement to avoid further violence, by buying off the PLA with social welfare and fair treatment for the insurgents. Predictably the PLA wipes out the overextended and outmanned U. S. forces, and Hawkins is forced to flee. He is ordered to mount a last ditch defense of the West Coast, but he has almost no resources with which to do it, and the PLA is massing for an all-out assault.
