Connie and Bob St. Charles had retired very early thanks to Bob's engineering discoveries. They thought they had built their dream home across the small country road from a lovely pastoral setting. As they slept one night, they were awakened by a blood-curdling scream. Bob dashed outside to find out the cause, and Connie desperately followed. As she ran onto the front porch, however, she saw Bob lying dead in the yard. When the coroner couldn't find a cause of death, but Connie was determined to discover what had really happened in that field across the road, the site of the Cane Creek Massacre in 1760. During her research she read the report of an expedition to a haunted house known as Middleton Wood. She liked what she read and invited the entire team to come to Monroe County, Tennessee, to help her find the answers she so desperately needed. Kevin Spencer, PhD in anthropology at Texas A& M University; his wife, Camille; Bryan Carson, PhD in history at West Point; Stephanie Forrest; and Margaret Jackson packed their bags and headed for east Tennessee. What they would encounter there was nothing like Middleton Wood and something they were wholly unprepared for. Here, hostile Cherokees sought revenge, and innocent women and children tried to flee in the dark of night. In addition, Connie seemed to hold secrets about the past and the present. The team would have to try to assemble all of this information in order to provide Connie with the answers she wanted. But would they survive the hostile environment of the Cane Creek Massacre to get those answers?
